The shadows she observed on the lawn prompted her to spend months developing an approach that in contrast did not portray the chosen object on canvas. In this way, the selected subject is transformed into an image of itself. This is particularly true when using living items or those that will perish for example, like fruits or human beings. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only piece from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a two-dimensional, flat area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain areas of the photo, like the hair or eyes, display the three-dimensional dimension. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D world around them, allowing them to engage with this self-created world. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting is thus broken.
